Greetings everybody!
Drum and Splash is approaching fast, and I would like everybody to consider coming to this Premier East Coast Drumming Event...
There will be Afro-cuban, West African, Middle Eastern Drumming, and Body Percussion taught and performed. The event attracts over 400 individuals from the folks that appreciate the Rhythmic Arts to new and Professional Players. It is a Family Friendly Camp that is truly a modern urban village. We have classes all days, concerning Art, Dance, and Music. The camp is located with a tri state destination, just over the Penn. Border, if you have questions about this please email me or call.. Thanks, Ken Crampton

Drum N Splash

Wed. July 4th through Sunday July 8th, 2007

at Four Quarters

http://www.4qf.org/_DrumSplash/index.htm

One of Four Quarters’ best kept secrets, Drum and Splash is simply a Very Good Time, and a great way to Celebrate an Alternative Nation’s Birthday with Family, Friends and Tribe.

Five Days with no agenda other than to Drum, Swim and Play, sharing with each other and our Masters of the Drum for Teaching and Performance.

And sharing a working vision of the possible through Spiritual Community, Ecological Sustainability and Personal Responsibility.

Over the years we have developed an alternative idea of community and of the greatness of our great nation. A modern day American Tribe of flourishing diversity and tolerance.
A community that values family in all of its flavors; and supports the personal choices of each individual.
Where, for a time, we can return to our human roots and take simple pleasure in simple things.
Song, Dance and the making of beauty.
A swim in the river.
The laughter of children.
Sharing a meal under an oak tree.

Hope to see you there!

Well...I did it. I added a Paypal shopping cart to my long neglected drum and shekere website. With some changes happening in my life it has become necessary for me to get back to it and pay attention to promoting my craft. What an interesting and lovely turn! The website itself is just ... well, gaudy is one word that comes to mind - the next is functional. A gaudy, but functional website. It needs a good revamp but I don't have the time to change the look and feel of it right now. So here is the url.... browse about, enjoy, pass the url to someone else - and I hope it doesn't sting your eyes too much to look at it ;-)

WyldeFyre Productions puts on a live show every 1st Thursday at Amy's Ice Cream on Far South Congress. The next show is April 5, 2007. The event opens at 6 with fire spinning classes, then belly dancing performances, then we have fire dancing performances & then we have open performance with live drumming & dancing (all types). We need live drummers (all style welcome - middle eastern is great for the belly dancers, african for the fire dancers, etc) & dancers (belly dancers, fire dancers or other ethnic dancers are all wanted). Please feel free to email me at AmberBarbara@hotmail.com or here within Tribe Austin/AmberBarbara for more information.

I hope the drummers can make it out with us. Live drumming makes the show for me!

Ethnic Drumming & Dancing exhibitions/performances will also be considered.

Come and visit our new sites, fire artists and spectators alike~! We are building a dream

>>>>>> tribes.tribe.net/shivavista
~~~ join the tribe to keep up-to-date and submit requests for performance/activities
>>>>>> www.shivavista.com
~~~ visit our website to read all about the project, view arist renderings of the completed installation, find out how YOU may be able to help, and see pictures of the progress as we build our dream for all to experience!

The Shiva Vista Project is an art installation *by* fire performers *for* fire performers at night and for other individuals and groups during the day. Shiva Vista will create an atmosphere for fire performers, theatrics, sunrise yoga, circus entertainers, poetry, fashion shows, etc. to play, interact, and display their talent six feet above the playa for all to see their evolution, their transformation from one year to the next. When the Shiva Vista is not being used for scheduled performances, it will be available to anyone to use for meditation, shade, drumming, as well as spontaneous fire art and beyond.

History and inspiration...
Shiva is one of three aspects of the Hindu trinity representing divinity. Brahma is the first aspect, considered the creator, Vishnu the second aspect considered the preserver and Shiva, the destroyer. Shiva's function is to destroy all the worlds at the end of creation and dissolve them into nothingness, void, from which point Brahma again creates the world, completing the circle of life. Shiva is responsible for change, both in the form of death and destruction and in shedding old habits to start anew. Shiva's destruction is positive, that of nourishment and construction that builds and transforms life and energy for the welfare of the world and all that inhabit it. Shiva destroys to renew and regenerate. This is the destruction of an artist, a surgeon, a cook; evolution. Through destruction is facilitated the smooth transition of things and events from one stage to another.

The Shiva Vista project represents the theme at Burning Man this year and the continued evolution of Controlled Burn and the Fire Conclave Convergence Camp in the sense that this installation is intended to be built this year and used over the next couple of years, facilitating change, evolution, the shedding of old and creation of new, recycling and the circle of all life. Additions to the original structure are in the design process and will be added for Burning Man 2008, at which time it will be burned as it was designed to do, fulfilling the inevitable departure from existence into nothingness and oblivion!

You can also read a recent write-up in the Reno Gazette Journal, outlining the project and promoting our first fundraiser at
www.rgj.com/blogs/its-yo...or-shiva.html

Fall 06 WildFire is ONE month away

Hello All,
The fall WildFire retreat is less then four weeks away. If you are currently or aspiring to be involved with the dance, drum or fire performing arts then don’t miss this incredible opportunity to learn and grow at the largest north east gathering built just for you. The spring WildFire retreat had over 100 artists attend and taught more then 30 classes in a verity of disciplines. This fall we have expanded added more class types and will be offering public transportation access (check out the website for details). We are also opening an indoor area for performing arts equipment vendors to come and show their wares. This is a great opportunity to see, hold, and play with different toys made by different folks. If you are a vendor of performing arts toys and want to participate in this way, please email chad@freedomthrufire.com (no charge to setup, you just have to be open to educating everyone on your stuff).

Summary Info
Sept 11th – 17th
Public Transportation is available
Located at a picturesque Southern CT river front location with hot showers and full bathrooms - directions on website
Car camping type venue – with many pre-built tents and bunk beds if you want them (first reserve, first get)
There are no public audiences at WildFire just performing artist
Classes are taught all four days, with spontaneous sharing happening constantly
Website - www.freedomthrufire.com

Tickets are limited to 150 and ticket prices go up on Sept 1st ($75 now $100 after the 1st). Many people have commented that this is the cheapest and best way they could spend a three day weekend (they really say that – ask them). All food is included in your ticket price and it is good food.

Best wishes to you no matter the route your path takes you on. If these performing arts are a part of your path, then I really hope to see and share with you at WildFire. FYI - For those attending Burning Man, you can check out the WildFire Tribe site to find other north east performing artist that are attending BM and where we are having meet ups and stuff (http://tribes.tribe.net/wildfireretreat/).

Walk in peace,
Chad

Sacred Fire Circle Magic on the Playa!! One Night Only!!

BURNINGMAN 2006
2nd ANNUAL SACRED FIRE CIRCLE ALCHEMY
ONE NIGHT ONLY!
Start: 11pm Wednesday, 8/30
Conclusion: Sunrise, Thursday 8/31

Since the dawn of time, human beings have gathered
around the fire to drum, sing, trance dance and to
weave magic in the light of fire. This year's BM theme
of "The Future: Hope and Fear", offers each of us the
opportunity to powerfully invoke our hopes for the
future and to cast our fears and those beliefs that do
not serve us into this alchemical fire.

We use the word Sacred in the title of this Experience
to infer deep, deep levels of gratitude and respect for each
other, for ourselves and for life. You are encouraged
to explore, maintain and/or cultivate whatever
worldviews work for you, so long as they are mutually
respectful of everyone in the circle.

We will provide this sacred space in the same general
Playa locations last year's all-night Sacred Fire Circle -
approximately 300 yards to the Southeast of the spine
(visualize 2 o‚clock on the dial), a few minutes
bicycle ride beyond the Temple).

Please bring:
drums/percussion instruments (we will have a lockable
trailer at the Circle on Wednesday so as to facilitate
early delivery of drums), warm clothes and enough
water and food to keep yourself nourished. The Sacred
Fire Circle is a potent cauldron for making real-world
magic! Please join us.

Drumming, BBQing, Potlucking in the Park.

Hey Gang,

So the weather's getting pretty nice out there. Time to get together for a day in the park? Last year we got together a few times during the Spring and Summer, Tilden Park, Alum Rock Park. And I'd like to start things back up again this year and see if we can have some more successful gatherings.

I know most of us now are in the East Bay. I'd like to get some ideas going for locations. There's a BEAUTIFUL spot that's adjacent to our last Tilden Park circle. Much more secluded and hidden from other picnic sites and roads. The table and bbq setup is a little more convenient, more space, all around much more superb.

Garin Ranch in Hayward is pretty nice, but not suite as secluded and out-of-the-way, and I'm not as familiar with the layout, but it's nice.

Anyone with other ideas for locations?
Dates this month and next month?
Shall we get something started?

I hope everyone's well, and I can't wait to get together.

remembering Babatunde Olatunji

Babatunde Olatunji was a virtuoso of West African percussion. His 1959
album "Drums of Passion" was a worldwide smash hit. He received a
Grammy Award in 1991 for his collaboration with Grateful Dead drummer
Mickey Hart on their Planet Drum album.

Baba passed away on April 6, 2003. Its hard to believe its been 3
years already.

I was lucky enough to be able to take numerous classes with him and
spend a week with him at Esalen. I went for the drumming but always
left with the songs. Baba once said the human voice was the most
powerful instrument.

Baba opened many doors for other african drummers and musicians in the US.

I am remembering Baba today. I miss him.

West African Drum Class

Hi, my name is Jonathan & I just joined this tribe. I'm looking forward to participating in some of your rituals if I'm welcome, and I'd like to share some of mine as well. I organize and guide non commercial whitewater trips if you're interested, and I love drumming and refining my earth footprint more than anything except family, my friends, and my cat. I'm new to this internet tribe thing, & my life is pretty full- so I'll probably not be a great online contributor, but I would like to expand my social contacts a bit. Enuf about me for now.

Amadou Camara, formerly of Le Ballet Djoliba, is giving us group classes on Thur. nites in or near Sebastopol. Currently, we are rotating class sites among the students' homes while we look for a more permanent home. All levels are welcome to participate. There are four of us that have been playing together for a while now, & are together enough to play for Amadou's wife Sheri's west African dance class which has followed the drum class. Any participant in the drum class is welcome to play for the dance class- we ask that you listen to be sure that your notes are in the rhythm, as none of us except Amadou is capable of sustaining parts when there is a lot of chatter. Sheri's class is going to be "on hold" for a while, as she is finishing growing their baby, so the drum class which has been about 1.5 hr will probably be longer. The drum class costs $20, a real bargain for the opportunity to learn from a truly gifted musician. You can contact me, on or offline, or 707-579-0633 to find out more, or to let me know what you are doing that you think I'd be interested in.

the tribe honchos tell me I need to add friends to my network. It's out of character for me to grovel & ask strangers to be my friend....I guess I'm too old to get comfortable with the impersonal nature of internet communication. But you can save me from obscurity, not to mention the reminders from "the tribe" that are beginning to make me feel lonely, even though I'm really not. I just ask that you don't flame me, or send me a bunch of self serving commercialism.

Goatskin Heads/Anthrax

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/02/24/nyregion/24drums.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

I hate to spread what might be seen as bad or sensationalistic news,
but I
figure that reading these informative articles will be better than
simply
hearing the rumors which will inevitably spread through drumming
communities. I've included the text of the most recent articles below.

This appears to be the bottom line for most folks:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

February 24, 2006
Drum Maker in Brooklyn Has No Fear of Anthrax
By ANDY NEWMAN
Ibrahima Diokhane spends most of his waking life surrounded by
goatskin.

His shop, in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn, is crammed with West
African
drums of every shape and size, all crowned in goatskin that Mr.
Diokhane
personally fetches from his native Senegal.

Down below in the cramped basement, where Mr. Diokhane stretches the
skins
across the heads of the wooden drums, the air is saturated with a
pleasant,
gamy leather smell. Goat hides hang from a line, drying, some still
covered
in the black and brown hair of their original owners.

Even after a day of being bombarded by news reports that an African
drummer
and craftsman in Brooklyn had contracted anthrax from working with
unprocessed goatskins, Mr. Diokhane (pronounced jah-KHAH-nay) said he
was
not afraid of getting sick.

"I used to hear of anthrax coming from the post office by the mail," he
said
yesterday. "I never hear of it coming from a drum. I never hear of
anyone
getting sick from a drum."

In Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Michael Marcus, who has worked with goatskin
drums for a decade, is not reaching for the Cipro pills to fend off
anthrax,
though he says he has a drummer friend who contracted skin anthrax
after
handling goatskins in a village in Guinea several years ago.

Mr. Marcus said his main fear is the government.

In the expanding community of devotees of the West African drum called
the
djembe, the anthrax case stirred concern that American officials would
curb
imports of the African goatskins that they say are essential to the
full-bodied sound of an authentic drum.

The city's health department said yesterday that imported animal hides
and
pelts are generally not seen as posing a risk for inhalation anthrax,
and
that drums in particular pose no health risk.

Mr. Diokhane, however, is prepared for the worst. "I think they're
going to
crack down," he said.

When people talk about West African drums, they usually mean the
djembe, a
tall drum shaped like a top-heavy hourglass with a web of taut ropes
attached to the head.

Mr. Marcus, who runs a drum studio and an import business, said the
djembe,
with its wide tonal range, is the most popular hand drum in the country
now,
more popular even than the better-known conga drum. The djembe turns up
in
nightclubs, in informal African drumming circles in city parks, and in
hundreds of school music programs.

Each drum needs a skin, and the skins don't last forever. That is where
the
importer-repairman comes in. Mr. Marcus said there are several dozen
people
in New York City who import drum skins.

Twice a year, Mr. Diokhane goes to Senegal and picks out goats for
slaughter. He helps prepare the skins, which are soaked in water,
shaved
with a razor blade and dried. Then he ships them to New York, where
they are
typically held by the federal Department of Agriculture for several
weeks,
he said.

Back in the basement of his Brooklyn shop, Keur Djembe on Union Street,
Mr.
Diokhane washes the skins in a bleach solution to disinfect and whiten
them,
shaves and air-dries them again, fits them to the head of a drum and
tunes
the ropes by hand. "I soak myself in the skin every single day," he
said.

Mr. Diokhane and Mr. Marcus scoffed at the notion of using anything on
a
West African drum other than the skin of a lean, free-range West
African
goat. "American goatskins are terrible," Mr. Marcus said. "They're
fatty and
rubbery, they don't dry well. They're harder on your hands."

Skins of other animals, like cows, do not stretch nearly as well, Mr.
Diokhane said.

His customer O'sow Danone, a musician from Ivory Coast, said: "In
Africa,
the drum was originally used for communication from one village to
another.
At night when you want to send a message, you need something that
projects."

Even Mr. Marcus's friend who survived skin anthrax in his hand, Ryan
Edwards, was not daunted by the disease, which he contracted in 1999.

"I saw it as a spiritual experience," said Mr. Edwards, who lives in
Michigan. "I went to an old medicine woman, who got out this rock and
pounded a green herb into a paste and put it on my hand. She said, 'If
you
don't touch any women, don't take a bath for three days, all the evil
that's
in your hand will leave it.' "

It worked. After he returned to the United States, he said, doctors
found
dead anthrax cells in his hand. Not everyone is sure the skins are
safe. In
the African bazaar that has grown up in the Chelsea Mini-Storage in
Manhattan, a craftsman from Burkina Faso, Goulgoul, said he was done
with
drums.

"I don't want to fix djembe no more," Goulgoul said, adding: "Have six
kids
in Africa. Two wives. Me die here, this problem for me. No good."

But most of Goulgoul's business is repairing wooden sculptures. He can
afford to turn away drum work. Mr. Diokhane cannot.

Mr. Danone, the musician, said he had faith that reason would prevail.
"This
is a very sensitive moment we're living in," he said. "But we cannot
live in
fear. If America lives in fear, the whole rest of the world lives in
fear.
It's unfortunate that this has happened in America. But I think we'll
get
back to the groove."

Halloween in the Castro

It has become somewhat a tradition for Taz, Ocelotsden, and I to go to the Castro for Halloween. A few years ago, before it went City sponsored, we decided to take our drums and it changed the whole experience for us. It let us bring some of the party to us instead of trying to find the party, if you know what I mean. With the City sponsored sound stages, it diffiuclt but not impossible to find places to set up and play. we usually grab a bus island or street divider.

I know its on a Monday night this year, but we always have a blast.
If you're interested in contact one of us and we'll keep you in the loop of where we'll be or give you the means to find us in the crowd. w might even join the parade down market.

Other infor can be found here: http://www.halloweeninthecastro.com/
PS. last year it was fairly easy to bring in alchohal hidden in the drum bags

I'm creating a template for Family Healing Centers:

self-sustaining energy work based centers to train family members to release negative patterns and enhance their quality of life in a socially conscious, environmentally sound and economically viable way.

The curriculum will be based on the Energy Healing Camp I co-create in the summers with my friend Brien, and the recent work I have been doing with:

anger management for teenagers via drum circles;
reducing test anxiety with self-acupressure for 4th graders & kindergarteners;
reducing stress and insomnia for homeless parents through self-acupressure;
and healing family patterns through energy clearing.

My initial location is a large, low-income inner-city location. I have an interested funder.

My rough draft target date is October 15th.

Thanks in advance for your visioning help, and I reciprocate and multiply all positive energy I receive right back to you for your highest and most enjoyable manifestations.

Peace & rhythm,
Burningman: FireDancing—Weds. Night @ Hookadome

MEET ME ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT WITH YOUR FIRE!!!

Hello Burning People,

I am super excited to be DJing for you at the Hookadome’s Fire Spin Jam, one of Burningman’s most thrilling ethnic dance events. The fun will begin on Wednesday night, sometime after 9:00 PM. Clan Destino kicks off the night with aerial, belly dance and fire performances, and then the Fire Spin Jam begins. We will dance until kerosene runs out.... Haha!

Because this is a Hookadome outdoor dance night, I plan to spin a kick-ass set. However, to give you expressive dancers a variety of tempos to work with, the music will be punctuated with funky midtempo dance music that will make your hips get slinky and reckless.

I will be playing a melodic set of deep, bass-heavy breaks house and funk of Middle Eastern, Asian and African origin. I will also be mixing it up with Bellydance and Bhangra music you will love.

To all you African Dancers, Tribal Bellydancers and Indian Temple Dancers, you don't need to have fire tools. There will be lots of great music that will appeal to you.

The Hookadome is located at 3:30 & Esplanade.

Looking forward to seeing you happy dancers on the Playa,
DJ Patrick Harvard (Southern California Dance Collective)

PS Also ~ Friday night @ Cirque Berzerk (2:00 and Amnesia) Sometime after 1:30 AM, I will be playing Funky Breaks and Tribal Asian Beats in a pumping ocean of bass with Janaka Selecta, Michelle Bass, Jessey Wright and Breakbeat Buddha. Come to the big circus tent.

TranceMission Update

Hi again folks,

The donations and RSVPs are rolling in. Oberon is going to be there. Here is some missing information to make it easier for everyone to be involved. Deposits can be made directly to the accout! Just walk, or dance, to your local Washington Mutual Bank and make a deposit to account number 181-259943-9. If mail is easier Mail to:

TranceMission
c/o Matthew Petronko
428 Madison Taylor Ct.
Las Vegas NV 89144

I would ask that after you donate that you email me here so I may amass a list of all the contributers.

ALSO-

There is a new way to donate! Sponsor a dancer! One or more dancers may be wearing pedometers to track how far we walk during the night. You can sponsor a dancer by the meter or by the mile, or any other measurement of legnth. I will leave the donations up to you as I don't know what to expect from the distance. Any takers for $1 a mile? Maybe $10? A penny a meter?

AND-

Does anyone have a chainsaw? Some waterbuckets for firesafety? Assistance with setup on Thursday. Drummers and drums, these we need more of. Alter Materials too!

If anyone has any more questions email me or call me at 510-282-5859.

Thank you everyone for your enthusiasm

> Dear Friends,
>
> Something amazing is happening and I wanted to share it with you. My dear
> friend and apprentice Matthew Petronko is organizing and hosting a
> wonderful benefit event on our behalf, and he asked me to write a little
> note of introduction.
>
> The event is called Trance-MISSION, a 3-night, all-night sacred fire
> ritual, at a lovely private home in the Santa Cruz mountains this coming
> weekend (Friday 8/12- Monday 8/15). See below for more information...
>
> I will be there for the event and Morning Glory also (her mother's health
> permitting), to join in the festivities and share stories, songs, chants,
> drumming and dancing around the fire. We'll bring along a batch of my
> books, Grimoire for the Apprentice Wizard, which I'll be happy to
> autograph for anyone who wishes to purchase one. We'll also bring some of
> our Millennial Gaia statues, and our new jewelry including the beautiful
> Phoenix Caduceus inspired by FireDance. We look forward to raising our
> energy together and sharing sacred space.
>
> The occasion for this benefit is to help us move into a new home. We have
> lived at our present location, "Shady Grove," in Penngrove for 5½ years
> now. This is a charming little complex of dwellings inhabited by nine
> people, five of whom were the original Ravenheart family, but now also
> including our friends Linda and Julie, and Morning Glory's sweet
> 88-year-old invalid mother, Polly. It is also the home of our family
> businesses-Mythic Images and the Grey School of Wizardry.
>
> But the property had actually been purchased those years ago by our
> 10-year Ravenheart family- and business-partner, Liza. Recently, she has
> gotten engaged, and she and her fiancé have served us all with eviction
> notices. Most of the gang here have already moved out, leaving just
> Morning Glory, Polly, Linda and me.
>
> We have been searching for a suitable new home for us, and for our
> businesses, and have applied for several promising places. As much as we
> would love to purchase a property, such a dream is unfortunately beyond
> our present means, so for now, we are just looking at rentals. We can
> certainly afford the monthly rent on those places we are looking at, but
> we will need additional money for deposits and moving expenses, and our
> own resources have been pretty well depleted at the moment by restocking
> merchandise for the coming holiday season. Needless to say the timing on
> this move is hardly ideal.
>
> And so--all on his own--Matthew conceived this generous idea to throw a
> benefit for us. It will also be--all on its own--a fantastic Fire Circle
> event! We are deeply touched and moved by this kindness, and are looking
> forward to seeing you there. If you can't attend, then please hold a place
> in your heart and your magick for us, so that this story will have a happy
> ending.
>
> Blessed Be,
> Oberon
>

Decided I'd open up the invite to my birthday picinic. Haven't tried to drum in Lake Chabot, but the ranger I asked about noise restrictions didn't seem to think it would be something to worry about, even seemed enthusiastic about it.
so....
What: Sean’s 35th Birthday
When: Saturday, July 23rd
Where: Lake Chabot in Castro Valley
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Castro+Valley,+CA&ll=37.722257,-122.113037&spn=0.065399,0.084964&hl=en

Won't know specifically where unitl the day. I'll need to do a land grab in the morning. Look for signs pointing to DUCK PARTY or the like. I'll try to grab someplace that will be the least disturbing to people, or move the circle away from crowds. {look for posting here as we get closer and I have more tiem to scout out}

Time: between 10a and 5p? (or when enough’s enough)

BRING:
o	Yourself, friends.. This is open invite, just let me know how many. I’m friendly and only bite when you look tasty. [carpool if you can] Dogs are aloud on a leash for a $2 fee.
o	Something to eat/drink, to share if you like. We’ll provide some basic picnic goodies (no one will starve) and there will be places to BBQ.
o	Something to sit on (blankets, etc) We’ll be grabbing a few picnic tables, but it’ll be a morning land grab so I may not get the pick of the litter. There’s plenty of grass.
o	Something to play with (bikes, drums, poi, bocce ball sets, Frisbees, footballs, chess sets, WHATEVER!) It’s a great big park with lots to do!
o	Some money for boat rides
o	Good shoes. Lots of hiking trails to take advantage of around a beautiful Lake.

TO REACH THE PARK
In Castro Valley on I-580 westbound, take the Strobridge Avenue exit. Turn right on Strobridge, right on Castro Valley Boulevard, and left on Lake Chabot Road. The Lake Chabot Marina is about two miles ahead on the right. In Castro Valley on I-580 eastbound, exit at Redwood Road and go left, go left at Castro Valley Boulevard, right at Lake Chabot Road, and follow the directions above. From I-580 in San Leandro, exit at Fairmont Drive and go east (uphill). The marina entrance will be to the left at the bottom of the hill.

Park on Lake Chabot Rd. and walk into the park if you can otherwise there’s a $5 parking fee.

I've just started a a new tribe! Check it out...

Free Herbal School Collective
tribes.tribe.net/freeherbalschool

A collective of people in the Bay Area, CA who are interested in learning from and teaching each other everything to do with herbal healing. This includes but is not limited to:

- incorporating healing herbs into food
- foraging for wild and medicinal plants and mushrooms
- making your own herbal salves, tinctures, and other herbal medicine
- how to grow an herbal garden

With all the issues we are dealing with today, from peak oil to corporations patenting seeds I feel it is very important to learn how to take care of our most basic need. We all need to eat and we all need our good health. Do you have skills or knowledge to share? Are you curious about these topics and want to learn more? Let's get together and start teaching each other what we know!

Can't believe they shut us down 4+ hours into it. Ah well. Something to remember to check for the next time we plan a new spot to drum.

I'll be MIA through July 4th preparing for my move. I hope someone else can get something started for July though.

Any fire drum circles in Tampa, Florida?

Hi,
Im fairly new to Tampa and was wondering if there are any fire drum circles in or near Tampa, FL. We spin fire at clearwater beach near pier 60 on sat and sun nights. I love spinning to drums and we are finally getting a couple of drummers to come out with us. I think fire and drums go well together, there seems to be some kindred spirits there. Anyway, please feel free to contact me or post a reply. Hope to get to meet some new people soon.
Ciao,
Mayhem

...only minutes to go until departing to the Fire Tribe Hawaii Summer Solstice Gathering!

Full of gratitude that this prayer, work and play exists in my life, and for all of you who are part of it. I'm glad that you are joyfully gathering around your local fires during the yummy summer months, but we will miss you here. I'm delighted to report that we do have some mainland family joining us!

That said, I hope you will be joining us here for the Winter Solstice Gathering, December 14-18. (Remember, airfares for December are cheapest in the next month or two.)

Again, much thanks to those of you who have sent prayer flags. The care, creativity and commitment which has gone into each one is felt and valued.

We're hovering somewhere around 90 celebrants for this moment of magic. As always, the rumblings of fresh, unexpected and brand new offerings in the festival and circle have reached my ears, and I am so looking forward to the inevitable surprises and delights of the Oahu's ever-morphing fire culture.

The 10 day weather forecast says the same thing for every day of the Gathering: 88 degrees in the day, 76 degrees at night, 10% chance of rain (that accounts for the morning sprinkle blessings we receive here nearly every day).

We'll be circling the Fire on Wednesday and Thursday night until 3am or so (maybe we'll stop!) , and then onwards to dawn on Friday and Saturday. Reach out through the ethers and join us in the the circle of light!

Bright Blessings

michael

manifest your highest vision
magnify your clear intention
we call on the fire
to bring our dreams to life!

breath it pure
breath it bright
feed it power
feed it light

we call the inner fire
to bring our dreams to life!

Hey, I am swamped already this month as I am sure everyone else is. I am also knowing I am going to be swamped at the end of July. So since June is right around the corner, who is up for June 11 or 18th weekends to gather and drum and spin?

Someone suggested a park in the San Jose area (which would be great for me) or I know of a good place in Woodside I can research further.

So who is up for this?

SOLARIS at Gaia's Oasis June 16-19

Hello Fire Drum Circle folk!

Are any of you planning to come to Gaia's Oasis for the upcoming SOLARIS gathering?

SOLARIS is an event put on by Community Seed, a pagan community group based in Santa Cruz. Although Community Seed meets in Santa Cruz proper, attendees for SOLARIS will be coming from all over California and potentially Vegas and a few other places . . .

I think past FDC community members have previously attended SOLARIS . . .

SOLARIS is known for juicy eclectic pagan rituals, a clothing optional vibe, and is restricted to adults only (18+). They love drum, chant, and dance, and plan to use the sacred spaces of the tipi and also the fire circle at Gaia's Oasis.

SOLARIS is an absolutely drug and alcohol free event, so if you register please plan to leave any sacraments or substances at home.

Last I heard there are about 15 or so spaces left, so it is possible for FDC to come as a posse.

Scott and I will be there since we live at Gaia's Oasis, and it would be great to see many of you again.

Here is the official info and the website link is below.

Date & Time: Thursday, June 16 2005 - Sunday, June 19 2005

A Pagan Festival by Community Seed - June 16 - 19, 2005

For many years Community Seed has provided the Santa Cruz Pagan community with opportunities to create closer bonds of love and understanding with one another. Solaris is a chance to come share songs and chants, and learn new ones.

Let us share stories, cook food in the community kitchen, have workshops & play by day and ritual & merry making by night.

Hi, ya'll!

There's a new community fire drum circle, music, and fire spinning night at the LaunchPad in NW Oakland. Everyone is welcome. Bring good vibes and musical instruments! There's always a fire going, unless it's raining. Festivities begin around dusk and usually continue until midnight. The LaunchPad is located at the NW corner of MacArthur and Martin Luther King jr Way in NW Oakland, just west of the MacArthur BART station. Intelligent conversation about music, paganism, anarchism, and anything else is very much encouraged!

That's my puppy's name and she was named after the last hawaiian queen I thought, but maybe she was a princess...

I am starting a "DRUM 'N HOOP" Gathering at the Crossroads Circle in GG Park. It will be held on Saturday from 12pm-on(until it gets dark or so cold that it doesn't work). If you like to play(or want to learn) and want to come to some place cool, this is place to express yourself/be. The vibe/energy at this place is VERY COOL. Imagine a place for everyone to sit in a circle and EXPRESS THEMSELVES. If anyone is interested, then come on down.
Friday, April 15 2005 - Sunday, April 17 2005
Red White & Blue Beach near Sana Cruz
A fire arts and hand drummers gathering.
This is not a 'festival' nor is it a BurningMan sponsored event.
This is just a casual fun weekend where we can meet new and reunite with old friends of the fire arts and drumming community.
For those who haven't yet experienced RW&B, it's a beautiful secluded beach with camping amenities near Santa Cruz that is fire friendly.
We hope to have a DJ 'part' of the time but RW&B is under new management & we're still feelin things out.
Although we'll certainly be dancing and playing with our friends, please be aware that this is NOT A RAVE or dance party.
This is an amazing place and it's extremely important for all of us that we have absolute respect for what is a very rare fire friendly place.
Please DO NOT FORWARD this to lists out side 'our' community.
Please DO forward this to our fire friends and drummers and we'll see you mid April for a very special weekend.
AND OF COURSE THIS IS A LEAVE NO TRACE GATHERING ! ! !
6 miles north of Santa Cruz on Hwy 1 at Scaroni Rd.
Red White & Blue Beach
5021 Coast Rd
Santa Cruz, CA 95060

New Moon Drum Circle

Hey there Brothers & Sisters,

If you got a Djimbe just sittin there waiting to be played or you just feel like gathering around like minded people around the fire. Then the New Moon Drum Circle is where you need to be. The New Moon Drum Circles are Shamanic Journey Circles. Journey Circles are for personal Empowerment. We go deep within to the beat of the drum to raise our vibration & align with the Earth Vibration; to seek answers for our Selves, our Friends & Communities. The Drum represents the Sacred Womb of the Feminine –Creation. The masculine Beater light the spark & we co-create a new. Drums can be traced back to 25-30,000BC when the Drummers were Women, holding the communities together, performing ceremonies for birth, death & everything in between with single headed drums. Today People around the Globe still use the single headed drum to reach altered states of consciousness, non-ordinary reality to converse with the Beings of the Earth & Universe, guides & helper that are waiting for us to ask for assistance & guidance so that they can help us. We Must Ask!

Drum Circles are held on the New Moon, Solstices, Equinoxes, all Sacred Days in the Circle of Life. On the New Moon, we ask for what we want to Make Manifest for the highest & best good of All. The Dark New Moon is the most Power filled time of the month. From the Black Void comes All Creation. So Join us for this New Moon Celebration. Potluck is always the path for all our circles held here and if you are able to help feed the fire with a bundle of wood it is greatly appreciated. Aho. Many Blessings,
Sonny TwoFeathers
